SlugMenu — Privacy Policy

SlugMenu shows UCSC dining hall and cafe menus, hours, and nutrition information. It is designed to work entirely on your device: there are no user accounts, no sign-in, and we operate no servers that receive your data. See also our Terms of Use.

SlugMenu is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by UC Santa Cruz.

Data you enter stays on your device

Everything you set up in SlugMenu — favorite dishes, allergen and dietary preferences, station ordering, appearance settings, and other in-app history — is stored locally on your iPhone. We never see it, and SlugMenu has no server that could receive it.

If you have iCloud Backup turned on, or you make an encrypted backup of your phone, this data is included in that backup along with the rest of your device's data — the same as it would be for any app. That backup is between you and Apple: it goes to your own Apple account, and we have no access to it. We still never receive your preferences, in any form.

Network requests the app makes

To show menus and hours, the app fetches public information from UC Santa Cruz websites. These requests contain nothing about you — no name, no preferences, no identifiers; the app has none to send.

• nutrition.sa.ucsc.edu — daily menus, prices, and per-dish nutrition labels published by UCSC Dining
• dining.wordpress.ucsc.edu — live opening hours and seasonal closures

As with any internet request, these sites technically receive your IP address. UCSC's own privacy policies govern their services. Menus and hours are cached for about a week to reduce network use, in a location iOS excludes from backups. Nutrition and allergen labels are re-checked weekly and kept with your other app data, so they are included in your device backup like everything else on your phone.

What we don't do

• No analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting SDKs
• No advertising and no ad identifiers
• No tracking across apps or websites
• No selling or sharing of data — we never possess it in the first place

TestFlight betas

If you use a beta version through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may share standard beta feedback and crash logs with us as described in Apple's privacy policy. These contain diagnostic information, not your in-app preferences.

Deleting your data

Delete the app — everything it stored goes with it. Cached menu data is cleared automatically after about a week.
